Экстерьер Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE 2018

Внешность нового Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE точно не оставит никого равнодушным — автомобиль обладает современным, ярким и чрезвычайно агрессивным дизайном, в котором, как не странно, просматриваются фирменные «нотки» классических Chevrolet Camaro прошлого столетия.

На месте остался рельефный капот, тонкая полоска фальшрадиаторной решётки и грозная головная оптика, с эффектными лентами дневных ходовых огней.

Профиль новинки имеет классические для маслкара пропорции, а также может похвастаться эффектными боковыми аэродинамическими «юбками», мощными колёсными арками и крупными 19-дюймовыми колёсными дисками, обутыми в покрышки Goodyear Eagle F1-Supercar 3R, которые были специально разработаны для этой модели.

И без того эффектная корма Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 в трековой модификации «1LE» получила массивное заднее антикрыло, изготовленное из углеволокна. При этом на месте остались фирменные габаритные LED-огни, компактная крышка багажника и монументальный задний бампер с двумя парами патрубков системы выпуска.

Производитель предпочёл не раскрывать информацию о высоте дорожного просвета, но учитывая трековую направленность модификации «1LE», автомобиль может обладать немного заниженной подвеской.

На выбор потенциальным покупателям производитель предлагает широкую гамму расцветок кузова, не позволяющую автомобилю остаться незамеченным даже в тесном городском потоке.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The words «Camaro ZL1» and «fuel efficient» shouldn’t be used together in a sentence unless the phrase «is not» separates them. The EPA estimates models with the automatic transmission will earn 13 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. With the manual, those numbers change to 14 and 20, respectively. Surprisingly, the Camaro beats the Shelby GT500 in fuel efficiency, as the latter manages 12 mpg city and 18 mpg highway. The manual-equipped ZL1 1LE we ran on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, returned a measly 17 mpg.

Aerodynamics & Suspension

Aero-wise there’s a bunch of new bits and pieces sprinkled onto the car. There’s a carbon fiber rear wing (and yes, it actually produces downforce and was finessed in a wind tunnel) and up front there are specific air deflectors and dive planes on the nose. Bottom line: grip is up, and cornering speeds are way up.

The adjustable suspension showcases racing-derived, lightweight dampers (front and rear) a with Multimatic DSSV (Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve) system. Yes, that’s a bunch of corp-speak, but what it gives the 1LE is excellent wheel and vehicle control. These front dampers can adjust the front-end ride height while the camber plates are also adjustable. The rear stabilizer bar? You get three adjustments there, and all of the suspension components are designed for quick changes at the track for “optimal performance and a quick return to street settings when the track day ends.”

Or, you know, you can just leave it on the track set up because that’s how you roll.

Alternative muscle car choices

If you prefer a bit more daily comfort, MT reports the regular Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is still one of the best muscle cars on the market. It’s also about $7500 cheaper, and even comes in convertible form. And it’s still a Car and Driver Editors’ Choice for the best muscle car.

2019 Mercedes-AMG C63 S | Mercedes-Benz

But not every good muscle car comes from the US. For about $3500 more than the Camaro ZL1 1LE, MT also recommends looking at the Mercedes-AMG C63 S. Its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 makes 503 hp and 516 lb-ft and can go 0-60 in 3.7 seconds.

The C63 is also a Car and Driver’s Editors’ Choice. To aid handling, it comes with adaptive suspension and electronic limited-slip differential. But, in a step up from the ZL1 1LE, it has a usable back seat, along with leather upholstery and a larger trunk. So, if you want muscle-car grunt in an upscale wrapper, this is the car to get.
